Return to singing

Come and sing at Winchester

Choral Workshop: July 2021

With glimmers of hope for a return to normality in June we are hoping that we can get back to singing together in person rather than in front of a computer screen.

Subject to Covid-19 regulations, we will meet for a choral workshop accompanied by the WMC orchestra strings on a Saturday in July, probably 10th or 24th. Performing Vivaldi Gloria in the refurbished St. Michael’s church adjacent to Winchester College Music school will be an uplifting way to re-start our singing.

Friday Rehearsals: September 2021

We hope that we will be able to resume our Friday evening rehearsals in September and be able to use nearby St Michael’s Church rather than Music School Hall.

The pews have been removed and the church now has central heating, toilets, and a flat floor. It is a much larger space than Music School Hall and therefore we will be able to maintain some social distancing if necessary.

Haydn’s Creation: November 2021

Our plans for the future include a concert in the Cathedral at the end of November with Winchester College Glee Club.

We had planned to perform Verdi’s Requiem, but with the large forces involved and having had the long break in singing together we felt that this would be too much of a risk should it have to be cancelled at short notice.

We have decided instead to perform Haydn’s Creation. This needs a smaller orchestra and fewer soloists and is ideal for younger soloists.

Haydn Masses: series delayed

Covid has made impossible our ambition to perform all of the complete Haydn Masses before our centenary in 2025 and therefore we thought a break in the series would be appropriate. We still plan to hold a concert in March and suggestions for the programme would be welcomed.
